At ESPN Insider, Craig Custance looks at five players who the Columbus Blue Jackets could have on the trading block as we get closer to the trade deadline.

He lists Vinny Prospal second and says that it would be a natural fit for him to return to the Rangers and re-join his teammates and play with John Tortorella.

It was written last week that the Rangers could have interest in bringing Prospal back.

Buzz: Could The Rangers Bring Back Vinny Prospal?

by Adam Rotter on January 15th, 2012 at 9:11 am

In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that if the price is reasonable, the Rangers could bring back Vinny Prospal to provide scoring depth for the bottom six and the PP.

He has nine goals and 21 assists this season in 44 games for Columbus. His cap hit is $2.5 million. He is a UFA after the season.

Prospal had 23 points in 29 games for the Rangers last season after missing most of the season due to a knee issue.

This is a move that makes some sense. Prospal has been healthy all season and scored at a nice rate for a team that is terrible. The Rangers know what Prospal brings to the lineup and he would be another big addition to the locker room.

WATCH: The Vinny Prospal Show From Monday

You can’t say enough about a guy who battled knee injuries and set backs all season long and has come in and played this role for the Rangers. He may not have a letter on his chest anymore, but he is as much as leader as anyone on this team.

“He’s got the emotion of a young kid. As I’ve said all year long, I think it’s good, no matter if he struggles in a game, whatever, just him being in the room, the way he practices, it’s a great view for young kids, because he is full of enthusiasm all the time no matter if it’s going well or going bad. You’ve got to give him some credit. I had him written off. I didn’t think he was coming back at all after this injury. And every day you’d see him and he punched the clock. And good for him. To spark us … it’s good stuff.”

Watch: Vinny Prospal Scores Yesterday

...As one of the top authorities on Prospal related goal reactions and celebrations, I feel like the push he received after scoring ruined the immediate reaction but we did get a few emphatic arm points and motions towards Brandon Dubinsky who made the pass.
