Lundqvist is sixth in the league in wins and goals against average. He is 9th in save percentage and first in shutouts.
A few months ago I thought Hank deserved the Vezina talk he wasn’t getting. He slipped for a little bit after that, but with his strong play recently, he is definitely back in the Vezina conversation. There are a lot of good goalies, and goalie who are important to their teams, so people will be left out when the nominations are announced, but hopefully Hank won’t be left out.
Brandon Dubinsky leads the team with has 22 goals and 29 assists. Ryan Callahan is second with has 23 goals and 24 assists and Artem Anisimov is fourth has 18 goals and 24 assists.
They dipped for a little while and were broken up, but at the beginning of the season and over the last couple of weeks, the Pack Line is back to basically dominating when they are on the ice. They forecheck extremely well and work hard to create goals. With the inconsistency of Marian Gaborik this season and Vinny Prospal being out for most of it, the Pack Line has been the production line for the Rangers this year.
The Rangers are near the top of the league in goal differential and have scored the second most goals in the Eastern Conference.
I think that is a nice mindset to have. It causes you to work harder, take sharper angle shots, crash the net and try to be creative to make plays and score. It all stems from hard work though.
I think Allaire is the most underrated member of the Rangers organization and should be given a lifetime contract for the work he has done. He made Steve Valiquette into an NHL caliber goalie for a few seasons and I don’t think you can underestimate the role he has had in helping Henrik Lundqvist get to the level he is at. He isn’t seen or heard from often, isn’t on the bench, but he works wonders with the goalies when he is around them.
Tortorella was hired on February 23rd, 2009. The idea of Avery being brought back was questioned as soon as Tortorella was hired.
Avery was claimed by the Rangers on March 3rd, 2009.
Chris Drury and Brandon Dubinsky talked about Avery’s return HERE. Many other Rangers supported Avery returning HERE.
Avery got on John Tortorella’s nerves in the Rangers first round series against Washington in 2009. Tortorella said that his relationship with Avery was “great”on breakup day in 2009.
The following season, Avery struggled throughout the season, leading to a benching in March. Avery responded with strong play and was praised before sustaining a season ending injury.
Hank has his moments when he lets in soft goals, but it’s games like yesterday and the past few games have shown the kind of goalie that he is. Every goalie struggles at some point, but how many step up the way that Hank has when the team needed him the most. With no safety net and a stiff neck, Hank comes to work yesterday and plays another great game, and saved the Rangers bacon in the second period.

It likes he got tired of playing the same season of NHL or Madden and decided to start a new one. He is scoring and while John Tortorella didn’t like his game yesterday, he is coming on and scoring important goals for the Rangers. He knows he needs to keep it up and if he does the Rangers should have no problem making the playoffs and maybe even making a little noise.
After The Jump, More on Gaborik With His Goal From Last Night
The Rangers are 17-16-3 at MSG this season.
…Technically the Rangers could lose every game at MSG in the playoffs, win every road game and still win the Stanley Cup, since it’s unlikely that they will have home ice in the playoffs unless they play the eighth place team in the west.
Of course that isn’t realistic and the Rangers playing well at MSG this past week was a great sight to see. After tomorrow they have two home games, four road games and then close out the season with three home games. Hopefully they can continue to play this way the rest of the season and into the playoffs.
Nearly every player on Friday night talked about how the crowd impacted the game for the better and while part of it may have been Montreal fans, that is the level that MSG needs to be at the rest of the way.
Ryan Callahan has 16 goals at MSG this season and 6 on the road.
Marian Gabork has 15 at MSG and 6 on the road.
Brian Boyle is 13 and 8 and Artem Anisimov is 10 and 7.
Prospal has points in eight straight games and 13 in his last 11 games.
During his postgame last night Tortorella also said that he really didn’t think Prospal was going to come back and play this season. His work ethic and enthusiasm has to rub off on players. Anyone in the locker room saw how hard Vinny worked to get back to playing and is a player for the young guys to look up to and match with work and enthusiasm. The biggest beneficiary of this could be Marian Gaborik, who has been playing his best hockey this season since he came back from his injury.
