Marc Staal played 24:05 last night and had three shots on goal for the Rangers while scoring the game winning goal in OT and adding an assist.
On his goal, Marc Staal said on MSG, “I just wanted it to go between them and I tried to hit it as hard as I could.”
On Staal, Henrik Lundqvist said on MSG, “Marc played a great game and was everywhere. He was making big plays the whole night. He is getting more physical and it’s great to see”
Brad Richards said of Staal, “He is a battler and we hope that he keeps getting better. ”
Dave Maloney said, “He continues to be a real factor in the playoff run. The Rangers were going to be better if Marc Staal was Marc Staal.”
The New York Post and the Daily News has more on Staal.
Staal has three points in the last two games and is averaging over 21 minutes a night in the playoffs.
Adam: Marc Staal is starting to show a bit of a knack for the big moment. He scored in game seven against Ottawa, off that tremendous Derek Stepan pass, and scores the game winner last night. More importantly, Staal is just everywhere on defense and the plays he made on 3 on 1 may have saved the game for the Rangers. He is playing like the All-Star player we saw last season and is giving the Rangers a third top defensemen who is contributing at both ends of the ice.
