Read: Those Bad Starts

When talking about the Rangers first period last night, Mike Keenan used the words “slow” and “weak” to describe their play.

Keenan said that they made mistakes but he did like how the team responded and did get a point out of the game.

Marc Staal said of the Rangers comeback, “We don’t want to be down in the first place but we stayed with it. We still need to play a better 60 minutes”

On the start of the game, Marty Biron said “The mistakes made us fall behind early on. We know that we can avoid those mistakes. That is a tendency that needs to be avoided and we know that, we talk about that.”

Biron added, “We know that we can start games and we know that we can finish games and that is the standard that we set for ourselves and what we need to achieve.”

The Rangers had this problem earlier in the season and I am not sure that they ever totally got over it. They were playing a lot of 50 minute games where they turned up their game at the ten minute mark of the first, or did so in the first intermission. It has dogged them the whole season and it is something that could really hurt them in the playoffs.
