Buzz: Waiting On Ryan Smyth and Teemu Selanne To Make Decisions
According to Bruce Garrioch in the Ottawa Sun, the Rangers are interested in and are waiting for decisions from Ryan Smyth and Teemu Selanne about whether they would accept a move from Edmonton and Anaheim respectively.
Anaheim is not yet taking offers on Selanne, but the Rangers, Sharks, Red Wings, and Bruins are believed to be interested.
Selanne has said before that he has not wanted to leave the Ducks, but the Rangers interest in him has been reported before.
Those four teams are also interested in Smyth and Garrioch writes that it will be Smyth’s decision on what he wants to do and if he does accept a move, he would return to Edmonton in the offseason.
It was reported earlier this week that Smyth may have interest in joining the Rangers as a rental player.
The Oilers denied that they are looking to trade him and Smyth denied his interest in leaving Edmonton.
This past summer, on June 20th, it was reported that Smyth had interest in re-joining the Oilers.
That same day Smyth denied that he wanted to leave LA. A week later Smyth was a member of the Oilers.
No one is going to say that they want to trade a player and no player is going to say that they want to leave. I tend to think that Smyth has interest in joining a team for a Stanley Cup run, but he won’t make that known publicly, if at all, until closer to the deadline. A move for either of those two guys won’t be until the trade deadline when Ducks and Oilers could really set up a bidding war for those players.
