Buzz: “Good Chance” Nathan Horton Is Dealt

Steve Gorten, in the Sun Sentinel writes that Nathan Horton’s agent believes that his client could be traded by next Friday’s draft.

Horton has a no-trade clause that kicks in on July 1st is due $4 million per season for the next three seasons.

He says that the Buffalo Sabres have serious interest and could flip Derek Roy, or more likely Tim Connolly to Florida.

The Sabres, according to Gorten, would love a top line of Roy centering Tomas Vanek and Horton.

Horton is 25 years old and had 57 points last season.

…He has yet to reach his third overall pick potential, but man this could be the season that he does. Motivated by getting traded, a new situation and maybe getting to play with a guy like Vanek and Roy.

From Florida’s point of view he is probably their biggest asset and will bring back a nice package for someone they clearly don’t view as being part of their future. They could get back Connolly, one year left at $4.5 million and probably a pick or prospect that could go a long way towards rebuilding.
