Taylor Hall and his Windsor Spitfires clinched a spot in the Memorial Cup Final last night on the back of Hall’s five points in two games.
Hall, with his Pavel Bure type scoring ability also has a knack for getting his clock cleaned which has David Staples of the Edmonton Journal a little wary.
Staples spoke to co-owner of the Windsor Spitfires, Warren Rychel who said:
“I haven’t seen a player over the last three years get hit more than him, harder more than him. He doesn’t get hit a lot because he is shifty and his speed, but sometimes he gets cleaned really hard and it’s amazing he gets up. Nothing seems to bother him.
Staples thinks that Seguin could be the “wiser” choice for Edmonton.
…Hall gets up from all of these big hits which sold me on his type of game. He is fearless and fast and can score. Will he get hit? Of course he will, everyone gets hit. Its hard to project out an injury riddled career for someone like Hall just because he gets hit a lot. He obviously needs to make adjustments to his game and skating to try and avoid hits but its starting to get to that point in the draft process where everyone gets nitpicky about the players. Soon the rumors of Seguin going first, which isn’t unforeseen, will start to pop up and then rumors that Hall will fall to four or something will happen. Same thing happened with John Tavares last year and he went first.
But here is the thing, its in the Rangers best interest for Hall to go first, at least for the near future. The Bruins, who pick second, don’t need Tyler Seguin immediately. He could make the Bruins out of training camp but they had a roster that fell just short of the Conference Finals. However, Taylor Hall and his scoring ability would make the Bruins almost certainly next year and give them the exact player that they needed to beat Philly. With the Bruins playing the Rangers four times a year it would be better if they got Seguin, at least in the very short term.
