Read: Lack Of Talent Is Hurting Team USA
Team USA dropped its third straight game in the World Championships yesterday and are slated to play in the relegation round starting on Saturday.
If the USA finishes in the top two of their relegation group then they are eligible for the 2011 World Championships. If they finish in the bottom two they are relegated to D1 status and need to win a tournament next year to be eligible for the 2012 tournament.
Kevin Allen of USA Today writes that Team USA is hurt by its lack of front line players and talent.
…Its a hard tournament to get players, especially this past season with the Olympics. Some of the big players are still in the playoffs, Joe Pavelski, Patrick Kane, Ryan Kesler just was, and its up to the players to play and its the off-season where some guys want to rest, but there had to be guys who weren’t hurt and turned them down. I am not saying that Zach Parise should have jumped on a plan the second the Devils were eliminated to get ready and play, but he could have made a difference.
