Buzz: Rangers To Invest In A Backup Goalie

by Adam Rotter on May 9th, 2010 at 12:09 pm

After a season in which Henrik Lundqvist had to play a career high 73 games, Larry Brooks says that the Rangers will invest in getting a back up goalie.

Last season the Rangers used a medley of Steve Valiquette, Matt Zaba, Chad Johnson and Alex Auld.

Brooks notes players like the Isles Martin Biron or Atlanta‘s Johan Hedberg could be of interest to the Rangers.

About a month ago, I threw my support behind signing Hedberg.

Hedberg, 37, was 21-16-6 last season. He is finishing up a two year deal that paid him $1.087 million per year.

In his career, Hedberg is 11-4-2 against the Rangers.

…For that reason alone the Rangers should sign him. He is older, but has only played 293 games and came into the league at 27. He can be the backup for this season before Chad Johnson or whomever else is ready to take over as the backup.
