Buzz: Should The Sabres Ship Out Tim Connolly?
In the Buffalo News, Jerry Sullivan makes no bones about a move he thinks the Sabres should make in regards to center Tim Connolly:
Trade Connolly.
It’s lip service if they continue to pretend that Connolly can lead a team to the Cup. The Sabres have a young, promising team, but they won’t begin to grow up until Connolly is out of here.
Fans are fed up with Tiny Tim. Management is clearly disillusioned. From what I hear, several of his teammates are down on Connolly, too. Yes, he was coming back from a broken foot in the playoffs. But that’s no excuse. His play was flat and unspired, as it’s been during long stretches when he’s actually healthy.
Connolly has one year left on his deal worth $4.5 million. He had 65 points in 73 games.
…I wrote previously that Connolly, if he were to hit the market, could be someone of interest to the Rangers and even after reading this, I still believe so. Is he perfect, no, but there is no player that is. Could he center the top line with Marian Gaborik, yes I think he could. He has grown as a player, I remember when he was with the Isles he tried to dangle through everyone, and while he still has moves, his game has evolved.
I wouldn’t take everything that Sullivan says at face value. Its clear he doesn’t like Connolly and thus thinks he should be gone and while I have only seen Connolly sporadically this season, I think he could be a good fit on almost any NHL team. I am gonna hit the streets and ask some Sabres fans what they think of him.
