Read: Dubi Did The Right Thing

by Adam Rotter on April 25th, 2010 at 5:39 am

“I’ll tell you unequivocally that Dubi did the right thing there because we cannot have our best player be a target the way Gabby was in that situation,” said Tortorella, who will join general manager Glen Sather and hockey department personnel for organizational meetings this week at La Quinta, Calif. “When I was asked right after the game what I thought, I hadn’t gotten a good look at the hit when it happened and I hadn’t seen it on tape.

John Tortorella telling LARRY BROOKS in the New York Post about Brandon Dubinsky protecting Marian Gaborik during the Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs game during the last week of the season.

…Of course Dubi did the right thing, but as Torts notes, he wasn’t in a position where had seen replays of the hit that Jeff Finger laid on Marian Gaborik. Dubi did the right thing in that he stepped up for his teammate, but of course the penalty that he picked up wasn’t that great.

The other interesting thing here, is that it appears to be a relatively exclusive interview for Brooks and Torts, there is no admission of that in the piece but they had their issues and Brooks had written at one point he hadn’t really spoken with Tortorella about their issues. This is a good thing for both parties but especially Tortorella, if this is true, because while winning is one thing, having the media on your side is another.

I can’t imagine this will last long though.
