Read: Picking Green Is Embarrasing

Yesterday, the nominees for the Norris Trophy were announced. They were Drew Doughty of the LA Kings, Duncan Keith of the Chicago Blackhawks and Mike Green of Washington Capitals.

At his blog, Anthony Sanfilippo, Flyers beat writer, writes that its embarrassing that Green was nominated.

…This is interesting. His reasons are sound in one respect, Green is offense first and has struggled in the playoffs, and did last year two, and the award goes to an all around defenseman and he feels that someone like Chris Pronger should have been nominated.

Green had 76 points in 75 games for the Capitals and part of that is added to the fact that he plays with Alex Ovechkin, Alex Semin and Nicklas Backstrom, but you can’t hold that against him. He is an excellent player in once facet of the game and average in the other. Green is deserving of a nomination for the award. His argument about Team Canada and stuff is valid to an extent but this is a regular season NHL award and has nothing to do with the playoffs or Olympics.

Saying all that, I sort of want Green to win just because of this, but Drew Doughty is my pick.
