News: McDonagh And Stepan To Captain Wisconsin
According to the Wisconsin Badgers, for next season Rangers prospect Ryan McDonagh will serve as the sole Captain for the Badgers.
McDonagh spent this past season as a tri-captain for the team that was runner up to BC in the NCAA Championship.
…That is pretty cool thing for McDonagh and another step in the right direction for him. I wrote earlier this week that while many think McDonagh should come out and turn pro, the decision is his and his families to make and he seems to want to stay in college for his senior season. While some may say he won’t have challenges, he will be the sole leader on the team this season and not part of a triumvirate. He will be looked to be the anchor of the defense once again and its not like he is playing pee-wees as a 21 year old, Wisconsin is a top program and should be playing meaningful games again in the tournament.
Rangers prospect Derek Stepan will serve as McDonagh’s assistant captain next season. Earlier this year Stepan was the Captain for team USA as they won gold at the World Junior Championships.
…Stepan was less likely to turn pro anyway but this too is a great step for someone who looks to have a bright future with the franchise
