East Recap: Pens Win, Flyers Win
The Pittsburgh Penguins have gone up 3-1 on the Ottawa Senators with a 7-4 victory that included a five goal second period for Pittsburgh.
Evgeni Malkin, Matt Cooke, Sidney Crosby (2), Max Talbot, Chris Kunitz and Jordan Staal scored for Pitt.
Ottawa had a three goal second period with goals from Chris Neil, Daniel Alfredsson and Matt Cullen. Jason Spezza also scored for Ottawa.
This game had a ton of penalties in the third period.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 of 30 saves for the win.
…Pitt is scoring and playing well, they will be a force once again
In Philadelphia, the battle of teams that Ranger fans can’t stand is being led by the Flyers as they defeat the Devils 4-1. The Flyers are up 3-1 in the series
Ilya Kovalchuk scored on the powerplay in the first period, but the Flyers have scored the last four goals.
Jeff Carter (2), Danny Briere and Dan Carcillo scored for Philly
…The Devils are way out of synch right now. They can’t get anything going and seem, at least to me, trying to hard to work everything through Ilya Kovalchuk. I haven’t seen enough from Zach Parise but the Flyers have played well and squash the chances that the Devils are having. At a certain point Marty Brodeur at 37 years old can’t carry you. He is trying his best, but at a certain point someone else needs to step up.
The fact is, the Flyers aren’t impressing me much. They are capitalizing on their chances but are taking way to many penalties, fair or not, that the Devils aren’t cashing in on. Brian Boucher is making the necessary saves but is far from being tested at a high level.
But hey, the Mets won. Two in a row. And if you like the Yankees, well the Red Sox are sinking.
