Quote: The Simple Things

At many times this season the Rangers have seemed lost on the ice, unable to complete passes and not get off good shots. In the last two weeks while the Rangers have been making this run and winning games, their style of play has returned to one of simplicity.

“I think we played a simple road game,” Henrik Lundqvist said after

Jody Shelly explained further what that means to Steve Zipay:

“In a few of those losses, we were making complicated plays, cross-ice passes, drop passes at the blue line,” he said. “When you do that, you’re feeding the transition game and you’re chasing guys all night. I think we’ve made some technical changes and changed the mentality, and that’s paid off. We chip it in, chip it out. We can still get better at it. You talk about bounces, but the bounces come when you play in the offensive zone.”

…Its not perfect yet, but the Rangers are certainly playing a better style and game then they were only a few weeks ago. The complicated plays are pretty, when they work, and can get the team momentum, but they are a realistic indicator of how a team plays.

These simple plays and games are much more indicative of how the team is performing. Something as simple as throw it at the net has been providing goals, where it used to be throw it behind to the guy there and try to set back up. Its a simple game and its one the Rangers need to keep playing
