Quote: The Rivalry Means A Lot
The Rangers and Islanders play for the 227th time tonight and that long history and Rangers center Brandon Dubinsky knows how much the rivalry means to the team and its fans:
“I think a lot of our fans take pride in this rivalry, and I know a lot of us players do, as well,” Dubinsky said of the Rangers-Islanders rivalry. “So if that gives us a little bit of extra adrenaline, heightens the energy a little bit, then I just think that’s beneficial.”
…Certainly didn’t seem that way in December when the Rangers didn’t show up in a terrible loss to the Isles. This should be a game where the stakes are already high enough, but playing the Isles should push it over the top. Again though, you can all you want but until you play up to what you are saying, it doesn’t matter.
This rivalry is lacking in the crazy fights variety which used to fill it, but at this point, a win is all the Rangers need.
