Hosting the league’s third best team, the Philadelphia Flyers pulled off a thrilling late game victory, stunning the Chicago Blackhawks with a goal with just 2.1 seconds remaining to win 3-2. All of the goals were scored in the third period with Chris Pronger (9) becoming the hero for the Flyers. Simon Gagne (13) and Scott Hartnell (13) scored the other two goals for Philadelphia, while Michael Leighton earned his 17th win, with 39 saves in the contest. Kris Versteeg (16) (power-play) and Marian Hossa (20) were the only ones to get a puck by Leighton. Crisotbal Huet made 31 saves in the losing effort.
Backed by a 38 save effort from Dwayne Roloson, the Islanders also utilized four different scorers to beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2. Yann Danis was in net for the Devils and he allowed four goals on 29 shots. Freddy Meyer (3), Jon Sim (10), Mark Streit (10) (power-play), and Sean Bergenheim (6) (shorthanded) each tallied goals for the Islanders, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Mike Mottau (2) and Ilya Kovalchuk (36) scored for New Jersey. The eye-popping stat-line of this game: the Islanders out-hit the Devils 44 to 18.
