Atlantic Division Recap: Flyers and Devils Lose

By Jimmy Hascup on 06. Mar, 2010

Tim Connolly’s (15) goal midway through overtime gave the Buffalo Sabers the 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Connolly (42) also added an assist on the Sabres’ first goal by Thomas Vanek (19). Adam Mair (3,6) scored, assisted, and finished a plus-one for Buffalo. Simon Gagne (10) and Mike Richards (26) recorded goals for the Flyers, but they weren’t enough as Ryan Miller stopped 27 shots to record his first win since the Olympics and 31st overall. Michael Leighton bounced back from a forgettable game against the Panthers to set aside 32 shots for Philadelphia.

Despite two goals by Zach Parise (30), the New Jersey Devils were unable to overcome what became a four goal deficit in the third period and lost to the Calgary Flames 5-3. Daymond Langkow (12), Curtis Glencross (15) shorthanded, Eric Nystrom (7), Matt Stajan (19), and David Moss (8) each recorded goals for the Flames. Former Rangers Christopher Higgins and Ales Kotalik  recorded assists and played over 15 minutes. The Devils scored twice in the third period – once by Parisa and the other by Ilya Kovalchuk (34) – but it wasn’t enough for a team that allowed five straight unanswered goals. Martin Brodeur allowed five goals on 25 shots and has now allowed eight goals on 45 shots since the Olympic break.
