News: The Rangers Make No Trades

by Adam Rotter on March 3rd, 2010 at 3:21 pm

Larry Brooks tweets that the Rangers have made no trades besides the Kris Newbury one today.

…Surprising, but not surprising. They made their move a month ago to get Olli Jokinen. I am surprised that Dan Girardi stayed but the Rangers may look at him as someone for the future, or someone that they will just let go when the season ends. The Rangers were linked to a lot of the same players that other teams were linked to, and Dan Hamhuis wasn’t traded, Milan Jurcina went back to Washington and Raffi Torres was traded to Buffalo.

Hamhuis would have cost a lot and didn’t seem to want to leave anyway. Torres would have been an interesting addition, but a forward would have had to been moved to get him to the Rangers. Once Gaborik comes back, Enver Lisin will be out of the lineup and then the Rangers have their forwards.

They were smart about this. They weren’t going to overpay for a rental player and someone who may not help. There wasn’t much impact wise on the market and the Rangers saved picks and prospects.

The answer for me for the question is yes and no. Of course I’d love to see one of the bigger contracts moved, but not at the expense of one of our younger players with whom the future of the club rests. We already made our moves last month, and, let be be honest, the Rangers were going to explode on the scene at the trade deadline and win the Stanley Cup with the players they acquired. I think the lack of movement was probably for the best. This year…

I am mixed, I agree with some of above, but at the same time you either a seller or your a buyer, and i felt the rangers were both here. They didnt make a move to make a run now but, they didn’t trade people they could have like Girardi, which we could have gotten pick for. To further help the future.

It’s just upsetting as a fan to watch teams like the Penguins who won it all last year have the ability to go and make a trade to make their team better. Where as the Rangers are so handcuffed by salary that they can’t even do that when there are some good players available.

In my opinion based off his performance in the Olympics this was the prime time to try and trade Drury. His stock is the highest its been since he stuck the dagger in us in game 5. There were definitely teams who would have been interested I feel.

until Redden’s cap hit is gone, the Rangers wont have the horses to win a stanley cup.

I hate to be a pessimist, but I’ve got a bad, bad feeling about Gaborik. If it’s a groin injury, it’s the same thing that’s bothered him throughout his career. It’s often been “day to day” for him, and then it turns into months.

    Hope I’m wrong.
