By Adam Rotter on March 31, 2010, 7:04PM

Earlier this week we gave you a preview of the NHL’s playoff commercial with Mark Messier.

Below is a spoof on those commercials, courtesy of Dave Lozo of NHL.com, using the Mighty Ducks:

Quote: The Isles On Last Night

By Adam Rotter on March 31, 2010, 6:06PM

“This one’s probably more [frustrating] with what is at stake and since it’s at home and especially the start we got off to,” rookie John Tavares said. “The game couldn’t have started any better for us. We gave them too many opportunities and they capitalized on them.”

Read: Jokinen’s Big Game

By Adam Rotter on March 31, 2010, 4:03PM

Olli Jokinen scored the tying goal last night off of a Kyle Okposo turnover in the second period. Jokinen also picked up an assist and was a plus 3 on the night.

…It was awesome to see Jokinen step up last night and play the game the Rangers hoped/thought he would bring to them.

Jay Greenberg in the NY Post writes about Jokinen trying to step his game back up:

“I am trying to work hard and be better without the puck,” he said. “Last couple of games I took steps in the right direction but there’s still room to improve.

Henrik Lundqvist told Steve Zipay that Jokinen had his game last night:

“Olli had great speed tonight,” said Henrik Lundqvist, who allowed two goals on the first nine shots before settling in. “He really stepped up at a great time.

As a Ranger, Jokinen has three goals and ten assists in 20 games.

Buzz: Rangers Interested In Mats Zucarrello-Aasen

By Adam Rotter on March 31, 2010, 2:25PM

According to Steve Zipay, the Rangers have shown interest in Norwegian forward Mats Zucarrello-Aasen.

Zucarrello, 22, is 5-7 and starred for Norway at the Olympics. Zipay says that Rangers GM Glen Sather has spoken with him and his agent.

Zuccarello played for Modo of the Swedish Elite League, along with Peter Forsberg and former Ranger Markus Naslund, and had 23 goals and 41 assists this season to lead Modo.

Previous reports had listed Chicago as a team with interest.

…He could be someone to have interest in because he is young, can score and most likely won’t cost a huge ton of money. He is small, but so is Brian Gionta and he has carved out quite a nice career for him.

This should be a story to keep an eye on. There was a lot of buzz about him at the Olympics.

Quotes: More Praise For Parenteau

By Adam Rotter on March 31, 2010, 11:21AM

Last night P.A. Parenteau picked up another assist and was a plus three in nearly 18 minutes of ice time last night.

…I have to say, he is playing better than I gave him credit for. He had these spurts in a previous call-up but the fact that he is playing like this in a big spot tells a lot about him.

After the game John Tortorella praised Parenteau for his pass to set up Marc Staal‘s eventual game winner:

“You look at Parenteau, he’s a creative guy – a lot of guys would have dumped that puck in before that flow, but he held onto it and made a great play, and we got a guy joining,” John Tortorella said. “Obviously that got us the winning goal, it’s a huge goal.”

His linemate the last two games, Olli Jokinen says that Parenteau reminds him of Jozef Stumpel. He had 196 goals and 481 assists in his career.

…At this point Parenteau is an NHL player. He has accomplished enough in the minor leagues to warrant a real shot and hopefully the Rangers give him another one over the last six games. He is a free agent at the end of the season and unless he can secure a spot on the Rangers next year, he may go somehwere else where he can get NHL minutes. He deserves it.

Atlantic Division Recap: Devils Fall To Bruins in OT

By Jimmy Hascup on March 31, 2010, 10:15AM

(Postgame sound from last nights win over the Isles is in the video player at right)

On the rare occasion that it’s okay to root for the New Jersey Devils, the rivals from the Garden State did no favors for the Rangers last night, as they lost to the Boston Bruins 1-0 in overtime. Patrice Bergeron (18) scored with 19 seconds remaining, off of feeds from Mark Recchi (24) and Mark Stuart (5). Tukka Rask earned his fifth shutout of the season, stopping 21 shots in the win – his 19th of the year. Martin Brodeur was excellent in net, despite allowing the one goal, as he made 33 saves. The Bruins play Florida on Thursday.

Read: The Voros Effect

By Adam Rotter on March 31, 2010, 9:23AM

Aaron Voros played his second straight game after being a long-time healthy scratch. He picked up an assist on Marian Gaborik‘s 40th goal of the season and played 9:32.

In the New York Post, Larry Brooks writes about Voros and his impact when in the Rangers lineup. Rangers Captain Chris Drury lofted plenty of praise on the Rangers perenniel scratch:

“AV is a great teammate. He’s a soldier. He comes to the rink, he gets bag-skated. He comes to the rink the next day, he gets bag-skated. He comes to the rink the day after that, he gets bag-skated. But he never complains. He’s always supportive.

“Now he’s getting the chance and he’s making the most of it. It’s great to see both for our team and for him.”

…I wrote recently about Voros being the type of player who can swing a game with something he does on the ice. He is someone who can play at the NHL level but in a certain role and not be asked to do to much. “The Peoples Champ” as he dubbed himself, has always had great words said about his efforts as a teammate but his actions on the ice can help the Rangers in big ways.

Is he a good fighter? Not really. A good skater? Not really. He just plays a way that can help the team when he gets the chance. Would I play Voros over Sean Avery or Ryan Callahan? No. But I would have given him a chance sooner than those two getting injured. He has that look and spark that can lift a team and something like last night can show that.

After the jump, John Tortorella talks about Voros and his presence (more…)

Quote: Contributions Need To Continue

By Adam Rotter on March 31, 2010, 8:46AM

“Our top guys accepted what they have to do to help us win and I hope it keeps up,” Tortorella said. “We’ve got a handful of games left. The guys getting it done will get the opportunity, no matter if they’re call-ups, first-round picks or star players. We just need guys contributing.”

In his first game for the Rangers, Corey Locke had nine shifts and played 6:35. In the first he played over three minutes and then closer to two minutes in the final two frames.

Michal Rozsival played nearly 28 minutes at 27:51 and had over three minutes on the powerplay.
