The excellent Tim Panaccio, of CSN Philly, thinks that the only way for the Flyers to break out of their slump is to make a trade.
…How about getting a real goalie, or one that stays healthy.
Panaccio explains that Jeff Carter could be traded because he only has one year, after this one, left on his deal, without a no-movement clause at the relatively reasonable cap hit of $5 million.
…Okay, that explains it. I wondered out loud the other day why the Flyers would entertain offers on a great pure goal scorer like Carter. They can’t trade Danny Briere, they shouldn’t trade Mike Richards, even though he is struggling, and after trading for him and extending him, trading Chris Pronger wouldn’t make sense.
Panaccio also lists Scott Hartnell as someone who could be moved even with his no-movement clause.
One player that Panaccio lsits the Flyers couldĀ have interest in, is Ilya Kovalchuk who has his a snag in contract negotiations with the Atlanta Thrashers.
…It would cost a lot. He speculates Hartnell and former Thrasher defenseman Braydon Coburn along with another player or pick, but it would seem like it would have to be more.
