Buzz: Cally To Make Team USA
Update:11:34AM: Shawn P. Roarke of NHL.com doesn’t list Cally among his projection of team USA.
Phil Coffey does list Ranger Vinny Prospal among those who will make the Czech Republic team, along with some fellow named Jaromir Jagr
Original Post: Team USA Hockey will announce its squad for the upcoming Olympic games in Vancouver on January 1st during the Winter Classic.
That hasn’t stopped many scribes and pundits from predicting who they think will make the team. Both Craig Custance of the Sporting News and Larry Brooks of the NY Post think that Rangers RW Ryan Callahan will make the team, the only Ranger.
…This would be great for Cally. He, especially lately, has been on fire at both ends of the ice. He has nine goals and eight assists this season and eight of them in his last five games. He should be expected to be in the bottom six on an energy line.
Other Rangers that could be considered are Chris Drury and Brandon Dubinsky. Drury seemed like a lock for the team, but his recent struggles have been to much to overlook, while there are deserving young players. Drury still has an outside shot because of his leadership history, but the Rangers will need him much more down the stretch. Plus, he did also have that concussion that he should still take time off from.
Dubinsky’s chances went out the window with his broken hand. He has played well and could be a factor for team USA, but he hasn’t played enough this season to warrant a spot.
