Quotes: Second Period Letdown

Ryan CallahanThe Rangers Artem Anisimov tied the game at one late in the first period last night. The score was 2-2, after Marian Gaborik scored a powerplay goal when Atlanta scored two goals in less than 30 seconds from Ilya Kovalchuk and Evander Kane late in the second period.

“I thought there was a letdown in the second, they were all over us,” Ryan Callahan said. “I thought we played real well in the third, but it was a little too late. If we played the way we played in the third in the first two periods, there is no question the outcome of the game.”

..Its still early enough in the season that the Rangers can move past last night, but at a certain point they have to start practicing what they are preaching. After every game it seems, the Rangers say the right things about what they have to do, but they are s struggling to do so.

A likely scenario, for last night, is that coming off their long lay-off, it unfortunately took them basically two periods to get their game on track. Or they were desperate and ramped up their game. Still, they need to do more of how they talk about how they should play
