News: Michael Nylander Placed On Waivers

By Adam Rotter on November 08, 2009, 11:58AM

Former Ranger’s center Michael Nylander has been placed on waivers according to the Washington Post.

Nylander signed a four year deal worth $19.5 million with the Capitals following the 2006-07 season. That season Nylander had 83 points for the Rangers.

Nylander played 70 games for Washington last season but only added 33 points.

He has yet to play in the NHL this season but had six points in five games for Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Nylander still has the rest of this season and next season on his contract.

…I don’t see how the Rangers could bring him back. If the Capitals did the Rangers another favor and ate more than half his salary, a la the Jaromir Jagr trade, then maybe. He doesn’t seem like he would fit in the Tortorella system either. He had a great run with the Rangers those two years and I always thought he should have been brought back.

Instead, Scott Gomez and Chris Drury. And now Marian Gaborik.
