Brooks: Rangers Scouting FORSBERG
By Adam Rotter - Nov 5, 2009 8:17 am

Larry Brooks, in the New York Post, has exclusive quotes from Rangers GM Glen Sather saying that theĀ  Rangers are interested in Peter Forsberg.

Forsberg is skating at a tournament over in Sweden which starts today.

He has been suffering from chronic foot problems for the past few years:

“Yes, we have interest in Forsberg,” GM Glen Sather said. “From the reports we’ve been getting, the foot is much better than it was a year ago.

“We’ll scout him at the tournament and see what, if anything develops. But I’ve always liked Peter and I’ve always been interested in finding a way to bring him to New York, if possible.”

Brooks also touches on the rumors that KHL teams may throw tons of money at Forsberg to bring him there.

…I held off on posting any reports about Forsberg skating and his possibility to come back to the NHL.

These rumors come up every year and until he plays in these game with a healthy foot and is healthy all over there is no reason to get excited.

For the Rangers, they are just doing their due diligence here with Forsberg. Any team that doesn’t send someone over to scout him shouldn’t be allowed to play. It wasn’t that long ago that Forsberg was one of the five best players in the league and used the right way, he could be an x-factor for a team going down the stretch or in the playoffs.

He would be one of the best options to either center or play opposite Marian Gaborik andĀ  give the Rangers a much bigger offensive threat.

If everything works out where Forsberg is healthy enough to play, I would expect the Rangers to make a move or two to try and fit him under the salary cap. At that point the Rangers would be basing their offense on not one, injury prone player, but TWO injury prone players.
