Quotes: $1.8M To Check?
Brandon Dubinsky has experience centering big-time players. As a rookie, he impressed everyone as he centered Jaromir Jagr. Now with Marian Gaborik in the fold, Dubinsky was being looked at to center him and prove that he can be the top-line center the Rangers are looking at.
“I think that’s why they held out with that contract, didn’t they?” John Tortorella said with a help-me-out-here chuckle yesterday. “I hope so. I’m serious. We’re not paying him a million-eight to check.”
….Very nice Torts, well put.
“I feel like a lot of times I have the puck, I dominate a lot of situations, I just don’t quite get into those scoring situations, I don’t quite pull the trigger quick enough to get a shot off to score a goal,” said Dubinsky, who had 13 goals and 28 assists last season. “I have the puck, I got great control of it, I can look to make a play, but I’m not dangerous. I want to get the puck and I want to be dangerous – go into the areas of high traffic, making sure you play a little bit more gritty game to get those scoring opportunities. That’s something I want to work on.”
…Dubi sounds like he wants to be more of a scorer, and after his hold-out, he should.
