Read: THN Picks Rangers To Finish 13th In East

by Adam Rotter on August 9th, 2009 at 5:14 pm

The Hockey News is starting to roll out its early projections and they have the Rangers projected to finish 13th, not in the NHL, but in the EASTERN CONFERENCE.
The reasoning:

This is a max-spending team with just one skater worthy of max money – and Marian Gaborik can’t stay healthy. The Rangers’ best player is their goalie, a good thing, but their No. 1 center is Brandon Dubinsky and the suspect defense is expensive, two bad things. The Rangers are a rebuilding team, but refuse to admit it.

…Uhhhh, well I hope they don’t….

Those are very superficial comments to make about the team and make no mention of John Tortorella coaching the team. In my mind the Rangers will finish around where they did last season, not six spots lower.

I also take issue with the Islanders finishing 15th in the East, they will be better then that, probably not close to the playoffs but better then 15th

in my opinion the rangers have a much better team this year than last i think they addressed scoring needs by adding a number of players capable of putting up 20+ goals…last year we had a few guys doing most of the goal scoring this year if gaborik stays healthy hes going to take so much attention other guys are giong to have more open space …and about the defense how is it suspect i thought last year we gave up a low amount of goals which ofcourse helps by having Henrik back there but i like our defense..i actually really like teh whole team i think we have every ingredient for a run this year i think we finish 4th in teh east but once youre in the playoffs it doesnt matter where you finish cuz anything can happen then ….with gaborik, drury, callahan, kotalik, avery, lisin, dubinsky, higgins, everyone of them are capable of scoring atleast 20 goals with the couple obviously if healthy putting up way more..i cant wait for the season to start this team is going to finally be fun to watch again

I dont think the Isles will be better than 15th. They are in complete rebuild mode. And you never know with DiPietro too.

As for the Rangers. THN has a point. Plus, wheres the chemistry? Who’s gonna center the top line? What is the top line? Who’s gonna QB the PP? Whats the 2nd PP unit?

Since Sjostrom and Betts are gone who’s gonna kill penalties?

I think there are a lot of questions to be asked with this team.

Rangers should be better if healthy

I have alot of faith in the young players meaning Staal, Girardi, Callahan, Dubinsky and you can add Gilroy and Anisimov who I think are locks and maybe Byers, Sauer, etc

Heard they may get Francis Boullion for depth on D. That little guy can hit
