Buzz: Dany Heatley To Sharks?

by Adam Rotter on August 2nd, 2009 at 11:27 am

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun is reporting that the San Jose Sharks are very interested in unhappy Ottawa Senators winger Dany Heatley.

Sources say the San Jose Sharks have more than a passing interest in the two-time 50-goal scorer, but if they’re going to make the deal, they might have to get a third team involved — possibly the Montreal Canadiens — because the Senators won’t accept what the Sharks have on the table.

The Senators don’t want anything to do with winger Jonathan Cheechoo, who has been offered as part of a package along with defenceman Christian Erhoff and a first-round selection.

San Jose had always rumored to be interested in Heatley but it seems like they were beat to the punch by Edmonton on June 30th. Now with Edmonton out of the picture, the Sharks have a chance at Heater.

…As for Cheechoo, very few players have fallen as hard as he has since his 50 goal season in 05-06. No one seems to want him and with his cap number it will prove tough to acquire Heatley with him still around, unless the Sharks can move another high priced player.

…When this deal doesn’t get done though, it is only inevitable for the Rangers to be thrown back into the Heatley mix by the media even though they brought in Marian Gaborik to be their top scorer.
