CSNPhilly reports that former Ranger Brendan Shanahan will not sign with the Flyers but instead is going to choose between a
return to the Devils or a return to the Rangers.
Shanny had six goals and eight assists in 34 games for New Jersey last season.
Shanny spent the two seasons prior to that as a Ranger, putting up 62 points in 67 games in 2006-07 and 46 points in 73 games in 07-08.
….. For some reason bringing Shanny back sort of intrigues me. He will sign for little money and it seems he is content to take a small powerplay related role on the team, if he plays fourth line, maybe third or gets shifted around he could be a big asset. His leadership can not be overlooked either.
Yes yes yes, I understand that he will almost certainly take the spot of a younger player, but you can’t expect Shanny to play every night so a younger player would get to play.
Shanny wanted to come back last off-season but the Rangers didn’t express interest, will they make the same move again? And don’t forget that Shanny also fought Donald Brashear in 2006.
