Third Update: Andrew Gross does an incredible job tracking down Kotalik and confirming that it is a three year deal worth $9 million.
Check it out for some good quotes from Kotalik.
Second Update: The press release finally came through:
“Ales is a strong, hardworking player with good skating ability and a heavy shot,” stated Sather. “We think he will fit well into our system and will provide additional offense and scoring from the wing position.”
Update: TSN reports that it is a three year contract worth $3 million.
TSN hasn’t changed their story but this deal has to be worth a total of $9 million. Will update when the confirmation comes in.
The Rangers have signed forward Ales Kotalik. Don’t have much as far as details, but Kotalik has been a consistent 20+ goal scored for several years now. Still not a center, but a good player.
Rotter: It’s up on Newyorkrangers.com with a link to video of Kotalik’s goals.
Kotalik, 30, had 20 goals and 23 assists last season for Edmonton and Buffalo.
He has scored 20 goals three other times in his seven year career.

Monzo you are the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen.
You want the Rangers to sign Koivu thenyou blast them for being interested in Zubov because it would take away a kids spot. Koivu would’ve taken a spot away from Anisimov, who is a kid. Zubov would be awesome with the Rangers if healthy. A PP QB they haven’t had since Leetchie.
You really need to think before you speak, Rotter does so.
I doubt your knowledge a lot monzo.
Fair enough — and I appreciate you reading … but I primarily meant on defense. Anisimov is all but guaranteed a spot on this team, I would hope. The Rangers have a lot of depth on the blueline, but no ‘A’ level depth up front — a lot of 2nd and 3rd liners. I don’t think Evgeny Grachev will be NHL ready next season — so if Kotalik plays on the top line with ‘Higgins/Dubinsky’ and Gaborik, I will be satisfied.
Great Job breaking this story Monzo!!!
Saw it here first. Nice, guys.
We threw it on our Twitter accounts as well — SNYRangersblog1
Well, OK….I saw it there first (already following), but it’s all the same to me.
I believe the Rangers website had it first, as it should, but it was here right after.
Very strange as they seemed to announce it on the website and nowhere else.
Not even a press release as when you click on their page it takes you to video of Kotalik
tsn is saying 3 yrs 3 mil…is that 3 a year or 1 per year?
3M per year for 3 years. 9M total.
monzo is a “consistant” flip-flopper
