Buzz: Kovalev Done In Montreal (Update)

By Adam Rotter on July 06, 2009, 11:28AM

Second Update: The deal seems to be confirmed. Two years, $5 million per in Ottawa for Kovalev.

Update  3:25: The Fan590 is reporting that Kovalev has signed with the Ottawa Senators.

Original Post  11AM:Montreal Canadiens GM Bob Gainey told a local radio station that Alexei Kovalev will not be back with the team next season.

A rally was held outside of the Bell Centre asking for him to be brought back.

The team has also said goodbye to their longtime captain Saku Koivu. In their places the Habs have brought in former Ranger Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta and Mike Cammalleri.

The former Rangers first round pick had 65 points last season.

He didn’t work his second time around in New York, but…..a third time? I doubt Kovy would want to come back after the way the fans treated him his second time around but if thing go bad with Nik Zherdev in arbitration, there are a lot worse players you can bring in then Alex Kovalev. One or two year deal for about the same money as they were paying Naslund. Interesting isn’t it?

Depends on his price. If we lose lazy boy Zherdev then I’d say go for it!

    Adam -

Keep up the good work. Of all the Ranger blogs I follow the updates here seem to beat them all.
