News: Gionta To Habs

By Adam Rotter on July 01, 2009, 8:44PM

The Montreal Canadiens have signed former Devil Brian Gionta to a five year $25 million dollar deal.

Gionta had 20 goals and 40 assists last season.

Guess he gets to play with Scotty again. With Cammer on the other side. Montreal has remade their team. But what about Kovalev? (Note, Zach Parise is NOT on the Canadiens but the two guys on the right are.

Monzo: Brian, meet Scott — oh wait, you guys know each other.

If Gionta gets 5 mil per for 5 years, is 5 years at 7.5 mil that bad for Gaborik? I still would have tried to get a games played incentive clause in Gaborik’s contract. That’s an awful lot of cap space for someone who has been hurt so often. But as I said on the show if he is healthy he is as prolific a scorer as there is in the entire league.
