Yesterday the Calgary Flames finally hired Brent Sutter as coach ending many months of
speculation.
But, as Andrew Gross points out, they also hired former Hartford Wolfpack coach Ryan McGill. McGill spent three seasons at Hartford with a record of 127-73-27-13 but was fired following the 04-05 NHL lockout season. The Rangers said that McGill wasn’t properly developing Ranger prospects.
He joined the Flames soon after and coached their AHL team until he got the call to join Sutter’s staff.
Former Rangers goalie Jamie McLennan was also named to the staff.
Rotter: Wow, Ryan McGill is a blast from the past. I remembering being angry that he was fired because he seemed to be winning in Hartford and thought he was going to be the coach of the future or at least a Rangers assistant.
