News: Investor Dupes Former Rangers

by Adam Rotter on June 19th, 2009 at 10:57 am

19 former and current NHL players are suing “Golf Course Mogul” Ken Jowdy for failing  to build  two luxury resorts in Mexico and using their money to throw parties, reports the New York Post.

The hotels are a reported seven years behind schedule and their money was used to impress celebrities at Jowdy’s parties:

Jowdy got rowdy, squandering their cold cash on “lavish parties” that included “various female porn stars, escorts, strippers [and] party girls” to impress Clemens, Jackson, banned star Pete Rose and ESPN announcer Joe Morgan, one of the suits filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleges.

Only baseball greats got to attend — the hockey players were not invited to the revelry, a source said.

Those who had their money stolen include former Rangers Bryan Berard and Mattias Norstrom who lost $700,000 and $60,000 respectively. Former Islanders Captain Michael Peca also lost $700,000. Other players include former Rangers Greg de Vries, Steve Rucchin, Rem Murray and Chris Simon. Former Devil Turner Stevenson and current Pittsburgh Penguin Sergei Gonchar are also in on the lawsuit.

Rotter: Why am I not suprised that this somehow involves Roger Clemens.

(That is Berard from his time with the Rangers attempting to defend Jaromir Jagr.)
