The Good and the Bad

by Brian Monzo on April 20th, 2009 at 11:16 pm

I know the reaction is going to be some kind of uproar.  The Rangers lose to the Caps 4-0 at the Garden, in a game dominated by Washington.  But Ranger fans, here is some good and some bad-

The good:

  • The Rangers still lead the series 2-1.
  • Henrik Lundqvist is still the goalie.
  • Sean Avery may have gotten to Simeon Varlamov a little bit.
  • Alex Ovechkin and Mike Green have still not scored a goal.
  • Coach Tortorella and Coach Schoenfeld will have the team ready to go on Wednesday.

But here a few minimal reasons to not be happy:

I would really expect the Rangers to come out Wednesday angry — otherwise, they may as well not play the game.  Not to say the effort wasn’t there tonight, but there were times where it appeared they were giving up — something we haven’t seen since the coaching change.

I’m glad they didn’t sign Zherdev to a extension during the season.Let’s hope he decides to go back to Russia !

even though i shouldnt be, im pretty worried about the next game. I believe whoever wins the next game is probably going to win the series

Yesterday during his mid-day interview, the Caps coach said that it was a game of breaks, and that if his team caught a few, they might be up 2-0 instead of down in an 0-2 hole. Last night, we saw exactly what he was talking about. There was still 2+ periods of hockey left, but if Callahan stuffs in the empty net chance, A) the Caps don’t come down and score to go up 2 goals, B) it evens the game at 1-1. I thought that was the biggest play in the game by far. Totally put the momentum in Washington’s favor and kept them rolling. Maybe the were going to lose anyway, but that play sure didn’t help.
