Source: Gilroy Signs with Rangers (UPDATE)
By Patrick Hoffman - Apr 17, 2009 2:55 pm

A source close to SNYRangersblog.com has learned that Matt Gilroy, Hobey Baker Award winner (college hockey’s top player) from Boston University, has signed with the New York Rangers.

A call was placed to Gilroy’s agent, Kent Hughes, and he said that nothing has been signed yet and could not confirm whether or not the Blueshirts had signed him to a contract.

A response from the Rangers said nothing is official yet.

This would be a great signing for the Blueshirts as Gilroy, a 25-year-old offensive defenseman, could help fill the team’s need for offense on the blue line.

Rotter: This is a great move for the Rangers. Gilroy has been excellent for BU and could be the Rangers future powerplay quarterback.

Monzo: I just got word that this is all but done.  This is a huge deal for the Rangers and although he won’t be able to help them this season — it will certainly help them next season and perhaps effect what they do in the draft.
