Article: Callahan finds scoring touch under Tortorella
Newsday has a report today on how Ryan Callahan and how he has played under coach John Tortorella.
Callahan on the new system:
“A guy like me who tries to get on the forecheck and go straight ahead, I think this system has helped me a lot,” Callahan said. “Just getting on the puck, it’s so much easier. You don’t have to worry exactly about staying too high or cutting off the pass, it’s just go, go, go. I like it a lot.
“I’ve been playing a lot of minutes and doing well on the penalty kill and getting some points and that helps. It’s just a confidence thing.”
John Tortorella on Callahan’s and teammate Brandon Dubinsky‘s value to the team
“You can put them on the top lines for a little while, you can use them as a penalty killer, you can use Ryan Callahan on a last minute faceoff up a goal in your own end zone,” Tortorella said, which allows him flexibility behind the bench.
“That’s so important to have and Ryan Callahan’s that type of player,” Tortorella said.
Rotter: All season long, Ryan Callahan has been one of the team’s best players. This season Cally has 17 goals and 13 assists. It’s obvious when you watch how comfortable Callahan is in this attacking system. He and Scott Gomez have both flourished since Tortorella took over.
