News: Emrick to Miss Winter Classic

by Brian Monzo on December 31st, 2008 at 5:15 pm

Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike ‘Doc” Emrick will miss the Winter Classic tomorrow due to illness.  Coyotes play-by-play voice Dave Strader will fill in with the call.

NHL.com has the story.

Monzo: Definitely hurts the broadcast, as Doc is the voice of the NHL, nationally.  However, I know Dave, and he does a tremendous job, and will do so tomorrow.

Great game, lots of fantasy points for me! I think Strader did OK. I would have liked to have seen Sam Rosen do the TV broadcast. I think he’s just as good if not better than Doc Emerick. I love Sam and Joe doing the games. I actually DVR the home games and watch their commentary after I come home from the game. Sam has been around a long time now and I must admit it took some getting used to him as I was a long time Jim Gordon and Bill Chadwick fan. However time waits for nobody and we all must move on. We’ve had great announcing the last 41 years I’ve been watching, if only the players could have been as great over the years.
