Thoughts: Play Prucha, sit Voros…move Voros…

by Brian Monzo on December 30th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Enough is enough and maybe we saw it last night.  Petr Prucha needs to play every night as a Ranger.  He works every shift and unlike  a Fred Sjostrom and Aaron Voros, who both battle, Prucha adds results.  Goals, drawing penalties, scrapping and battling in corners.

For whatever reason, Prucha has been in coach Tom Renney’s doghouse for the better part of a year and a half.  Prucha scored 52 goals in his first two season, but has scored 10 since then.  But Prucha is a fan favorite and a player the team rallies around.

Prucha needs to get a lot of minutes and a lot of powerplay time.

With this said, it may be worth seeing what the Rangers can get for Voros.  He has some size and will fight (and lose) to anyone.  The Rangers have plenty of people who are willing to drop the gloves (Colton Orr, Brandon Dubinsky…or Scott Gomez).  Voros may be attractive to a team looking to add some depth and would clear a small amount of cap space for the Rangers.

Just something to ponder…

Happy New Year to all Ranger Bloggers. Between going to the Garden and the holiday’s I’m just getting the chance again to contribute to the blog. Here is a point that I’ve lost my voice on most recently last Monday and many times more over the last couple of years. PETR PRUCHA HAS GOT TO PLAY. The guy plays the game with unmatched guts and determination. It’s been a glaring mistake by Renney not to play Prucha. The guy is 170 pounds dripping wet and will hit the biggest guys on the ice no matter who , what, when , where, or how!!! And if given the chance he will still score important goals. You have to wonder why Renney has Prucha so low on the depth chart. I actually got so mad at Renney for that poor judgement, I started to wonder what it would take to get Messier to coach the team. Messier is one of a very few who can soak the most and best out of every player just by staring them down. This is just food for thought should we be looking at another 1st or 2nd round exit. I think every Ranger fan would agree last Monday’s victory over the Icelanders was nothing to be proud of. It was a sloppy defensive effort again, and if the Rangers were playing a pro team they probably would have lost with the kind of effort they gave. The only positive conclusion you can gather from that game was that Petr Prucha has got to play. As for Voros, so much for thinking he will be the new Avery. He hasn’t got half the hockey talent of Avery even with him being wacked out of his mind. Voros is just another expendable player who hustles and battles and like so many of his teammates hardly ever puts any numbers up on the score board. Here’s a list of Rangers I will help pack and bring to the airport: Rissmiller, Orr, Fritsche, Sjostrom, Voros, Kalinin, Redden,& Rozsival. Players threatening to join this list include Drury,& Dubinsky depending on what we can get back for them. With the book still out on Dawes and Korpikoski. Look we Ranger fans have seen enough “muckers” in the past. Steve Vickers and Don Maloney for example. These are the type of grinders that we need cause they occasionally put the puck in the net. OK, welcome 2009, first up the Capitals and Penguins. Certainly two tougher tests for our boys than the Icelanders were last Monday. Hopefully the holiday break refreshed the blueshirts and they can get back to that tight defensive, dare I say “Devil style” of play that brings out the best in the team. The trading deadline will be here before you know it. And with Sundin gone to Vancouver maybe Sather can make a deal for a guy like Nik Antropov if the Leafs are truly looking to go with youth. There are many unknowns ahead, but two things are for sure, we need a body like Antropov to consistently be in front of the net, and PETR PRUCHA HAS GOT TO PLAY. More to come later I’m sure from this venting Ranger fan.
