It’s evident that Sean Avery will not be back in a Dallas Stars jersey — he may play the rest of the season in the minors. He may decline that and get suspended. If he gets waived, goes unclaimed as expected, goes on re-entry waivers and gets claimed, the team that claims him pays half his salary and the Stars pick up the rest.

Everyone knows Avery wants to be in NY. The fans love him (for the most part). I think it would take a huge meeting with Chris Drury, Scott Gomez and Henrik Lundqvist with the coaches and Avery to decide whether this would work. Would I take him? I think the record is a little overblown with him in the lineup, but when happy he is the most unique player in the NHL. I think I would.
