Change of the lines…again

by Brian Monzo on October 30th, 2008 at 1:36 pm

Thanks to ‘Ranger Report’ Tom Renney has changed the lines again for this evenings battle with Atlanta at MSG.  I can’t even write much different than what Sam Weinman wrote — I guess three straight wins wasn’t enough for coach Renney to keep things they way they were.  Petr Prucha will be healthy scratch.  The defensive pairings will remain intact.

Voros-Dubinsky-Zherdev

Dawes-Fritsche-Callahan

Normally, I would disagree with this. But any button Renney has pushed this season has worked thus far.  I will want to see Petr Prucha get a more consistent role on this team.  He helped with the comeback last week against the Pens and played well against the Islanders Monday.

Prucha, who had 52 goals in his first two season, had 7 goals last year in limited and has yet to score this year.  Most Rangers fans want Prucha to get more ice time — and not for the simple reason of being able to cheer “PRUUUUUUUUUUU,” but because he owns a sweet pair of hands and when given PP time, he can make pucks hit the back of the net.

If we’re not gonna play Prucha we should start thinking about a trade. And what is the word on the Mats Sundin front Brian? Still any interest at all?

One thing I can’t understand is why Prucha is getting banished to the press box but Dawes is getting a free pass. Dawes has certainly shown flashes of offensive ability (although mostly in shootouts), but he has never come close to producing in the NHL at the level Prucha did in his rookie season.

It’s true that Prucha hasn’t been able to repeat that success, but I don’t see why Dawes is getting a longer leash than he is.

That being said, I would rather see either of them in the lineup than Fritsche, who hasn’t shown anything so far.

Don’t know how I feel about that 3rd line..seems a little weak to me

      Hey, thanks for reading–

Don’t sweat the 3rd line. Fritsche is a good player and Callahan is playing a good brand of hockey. Dawes needs to get his act together.

As far as Mats goes — I think the only person that knows his future is him. I think he will be back, but not in a Ranger jersey. Vancouver is still offering a lot of cash and Ottawa may swoop in.

      Thanks–
